Apr 17, 2008 · What I learned from my first 10 gal batch: I needed a taller brewstand. After cooling, 10 gal is too heavy to pour into fermenters. I have no ball valve and go over the top of my kettle. My stand was really low and racking took FOREVER! Use cinder blocks if you need to get your stand up to a reasonable height for racking later.
Rubbermaid 10 gal. Mash Tun | Community - BeerAdvocate
Jan 14, 2013 · I recently bought a 10 gal. Rubbermaid Mash Tun with a 12" stainless steel false bottom and brewed three batches of beer (Cream, Steam, and Scotch ales). The Cream was finally finished and was bottled only to be opened by St. Paddy's Day to contain an initial wheat/corn taste and a (what can only be described as) "plastic-like" aftertaste.
Is a 15 gal. kettle too big or unwieldy for 5 gallon batches?
Dec 6, 2005 · I realize you can do a lot with a 10 Gal mash tun and do some lower gravity 10 gallon batches, but if you want to do 10 gallon batches of RIS, Barleywine or anything with a higher Gravity- you simply need more room. For sure you can do 5 gallon batches of high gravity beers in a 10 gallon MT, but my statement didn't address 5 gallon batches.

Brewing small batches in larger system? - BeerAdvocate
Aug 22, 2008 · I run 5 gal batches most of the time in my 15 gal kettle. I'm glad I have extra room to slosh around. I do fine with 10 gal batches when I do them. 2 or 3 gallons will fit fine in a 6.5 gal carboy/fermenter. Don't worry about the extra head space unless you are wanting to secondary. I'm in the vein of brewers that if I don't have to secondary ...
