Swami Avdheshanand Giri is an Indian Hindu spiritual guru, writer and philosopher. He is the current Acharya Mahamandaleshwar of Juna Akhara. [1][2] Juna Akhara is the largest Akhara for Naga Sadhus in India. [3][4] Giri has initiated about one million Naga sadhus. [5][6] His Ashram is situated at Kankhal, Haridwar. [7] .

The akhara with the most sadhu is Juna Akhara, followed by Niranjani Akhara and Mahanirvani Akhara. Among these, today, three are considered major akhara (Juna, Niranjani and Mahanirvani) and three minor akhara (Avahan affiliated with Juna, Ananda affiliated with Niranjani and Atal affiliated with Mahanirvani).

With more than 400,000 sannyasi members, Juna Akhara is by far the largest order of sadhus in India, today, the vast majority are Naga Babas. They have been called the defenders of the Sanatan Dharma.

Juna Akhara is one of the seven most influential and oldest monastic orders. Founded by Bhagavan Dattatreya, Juna Akhara was reorganized by Adi Shankaracharya into a Sannyasi order.
