Much less wind noise from the lightbar and the car handles better on windy days because the aerodynamic design isn't corrupted by the lightbar. I might mention- the reason slick-top cars are safer than lightbar cars is a theory that came out of the study.

Jun 3, 2009 · I drive an unmarked slicktop. ACO88, unmarked as in no PD insignia on the car. Nothing. No decals, no nothing. Slicktop as in no lightbar. My crown vic has lights mounted on the interior and in the headlights. Therefore, it's commonly referred to as an unmarked slicktop.

I like having the slicktop for the stealth aspect, but I am typically assigned to a school and am not actively hunting for traffic stops. The car just went in for service, and I found out the heater core is leaking, and there are other minor issues as well.

Illinois State Police did the most detailed one back in the 80's- that show that slick top cars are involved in less crashes than cars with lightbars. Did they control for the type of enforcement the cars were used for?

Dec 14, 2016 · The pool car I am in now was my take-home before the slick, so I will see if I can switch back to it. The two remaining slicks can be used by the new guys who need to do traffic or for our Traffic Task Force teams.

Our car assignments are based on seniority. Some officers prefer the brand new cars, while others drive the cars that have been broken in a little. It's all about preference and what you're comfortable with.

What also didn't hurt was that the unmarked car was about $1000.00 less than the fully marked car (light bars were $400.00 cheaper than our standard overhead and no cost for marking the car with stripes and POLICE decals).

Nov 7, 2008 · I drive a slicktop midnight blue (almost black) CVPI with stealth graphics. I came out of a white CVPI with a low profile LED overhead lightbar. The difference is astounding. Not just with traffic but with neighborhood patrols. Lights out and the car disapears. I have some good spots off the shoulder of the highway I use for speed enforcement.

Sep 6, 2006 · Beckham, I really wish I had some solid numbers to give you, but I can only offer the following; Let's see here, previous departments from Ohio were small and generally only had 2-4 patrol cars and maybe a slicktop at one agency if I remember correctly.
