Sherbondy Hill was a real place and not just an imaginary invention of our storyteller ancestors. It was a part of Akron, Ohio. Sherbondys were among the very first ten families that settled Akron and they made their mark on Akron history.

The Sherbondy Hill neighborhood (formerly named Lane-Wooster) [1] is located just west of downtown Akron. In the early 20th century, the area became home to African-American families who were moving to Akron from the south.

The Sherbondy Hill neighborhood is a vibrant pocket of Akron offering budget-friendly housing, top-tier parks and proximity to many of the city’s biggest attractions. Formerly known as Lane Wooster, this neighborhood is adjacent to Downtown Akron and borders Kenmore, West Akron and Highland Square.

The official name is the Orthodox Jewish Cemetery, but it is commonly known as Sherbondy Hill. While no members of the Sherbondy family are buried at the cemetery, members of the family did own and live in that section of Akron before the turn of the century.
