There’s a new wreck dive in San Carlos. The Ex-Buque Santos (PO-106) was sunk on March 3, 2022 to create an artificial reef perfect for snorkeling and diving. The ship was originally a minesweeper for the US in World War II. After it was decommissioned, it was given to the Mexican Navy to use.

Poseidon Wreck Dive: The wreck lies 47 miles north of San Carlos, about 6 miles off the coast. The ship is at a depth of approximately 65 feet and has become an artificial reef. It is complete and has not split into two as had earlier been feared.

Thursday, March 3, 2022, the Mexican government sank the retired navy ship Santos P106 in a bay near San Carlos/Guaymas, Sonora, to create an artificial reef and interesting dive site for local divers.

Nov 3, 2020 · Mexico is sinking a ship in the San Carlos area as an artificial reef and a wreck that will be designed for divers and even viewable for snorkelers. The former USS Gladiator (AM-319) is a decommissioned Auk class minesweeper that served in WWII and the Korean War.

Suchiate, is ready to dive! It is in the same area as the previous wreck, in the bay in front of Punta Cautín on the west side of Punta Doble (see map below). The top level of the ship sits at about 12 feet water and the bottom rests at about 50 feet. There are four levels in all at different depths.
