Mount Taranaki (Māori: Taranaki Maunga, also known as Mount Egmont) is a dormant stratovolcano and legal person in the Taranaki region on the west coast of New Zealand's North Island. [5] [6] [7] At 2,518 metres (8,261 ft), it is the second highest mountain in the North Island, after Mount Ruapehu.

Rising above the clouds, the 2518 m summit of this dormant volcano is a challenging 1.6 km vertical climb to the peak. For non-mountaineers, the best time to climb the mountain is during January to April when the mountain is often clear of snow and ice, other than in the crater.
