Pluto makes an odd out-of-character appearance in this short as a glove-wearing anthropomorphic trombone player. Interestingly enough, this predicted the Mickey Mouse Works cartoon "Pluto's Magic Paws", where Pluto gets a hold of a pair of magical gloves.

Mickey plays a bluesy tune on a piano on a stage. Minnie sings. Then an unseen band plays while both sing and dance. Mickey then leads the 9-piece band in an uptempo number, with Pluto on trombone, Horace on percussion, and Clarabelle on bass, among others. Apr 25, 2021 · Alice's Wonderland (1923) was Disney's demonstration/pilot for his "Alice" series , predating Oswald the Rabbit, predating Mickey (the) Mouse. Beginning about 5:10 you can see glimpses of a trombone-playing cat (?) in the band welcoming Alice to Wonderland.

At points, Mickey mimes playing the trombone and the banjo, puts his hat all over his body and ends up doing a duet with his hat and cane. Symphony Hour proves to be the only short where Mickey can behave like his modern self and yet still have traces of his old "scrapper" personality.
