Lieutenant Rene Goupil suffered a fatal heart attack shortly after finishing a mandatory two mile run while on duty. Lieutenant Goupil was a U.S Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam war and had served with the Maine State Police for 20 years. He was survived by his wife and two children.

Maine State Police license plates and police car images collection and general information

State Police sworn personnel are authorized to wear special 100th Anniversary badges on their uniforms that are replicas of the first badges issued. These badges have been approved by command staff to be worn in celebration of the Centennial but are optional.
