Ostrobothnia (Swedish: Österbotten; Finnish: Pohjanmaa) is a region in western Finland. It borders the regions of Central Ostrobothnia, South Ostrobothnia, and Satakunta. It is one of six regions considered historical Ostrobothnia, hence it is also referred to as Coastal Ostrobothnia to avoid confusion.

Oct 9, 2022 · Historically Ostrobothnia extends from just north of the city of Björneborg deep into the far north of Finland. In the west, the Gulf of Bothnia serves as its border, and in the east, it extends to the Suomenselkä ridge.

Southern Ostrobothnia was a major support area for Jaeger recruitment, and about 40% of all those who left to become Jaegers were Ostrobothnians. The goal was armed resistance to support Finland’s independence.
