Jan 8, 2012 · Dewaxed shellac is a universal sealer; it sticks to just about anything and just about anything sticks to it. If shellac is the final topcoat, is there anything wrong with using non-dewaxed shellac for the seal coat and all subsequent coats?

May 26, 2005 · The dewaxed varieties are what you want to use when you're using shellac as some sort of barrier coat between other types of finishes. Many other finishes will bond to the dewaxed shellac, but not to shellac with wax in it.

Mar 19, 2009 · The dewaxed shellac actually sands a bit less easily than the shellac with wax. Dewaxed shellac is a clearer, and is also somewhat more moisture resistant than shellac with wax.

Several passes will result in de-waxed shellac (good enough for just about any need for de-waxed) 2. I’ve asked Rustoleum/Zinsser the pound cut equivalent of both Seal Coat and their regular shellac. They say that’s proprietary and won’t reveal it. Has anyone just experimented and come up with anything?
