In this post I want to cover the topic of aspect ratio, mostly deciding between 2.35:1 vs 16:9. I'm going to show you different kinds of popular aspect ratios, when should you use them and which one I'll be using for my next film.

The 2.35:1 aspect ratio (also pronounced "2.35 1", "2.35 to 1", "2.35 by 1" or "2.35x1") is a Cinemascope or widescreen aspect ratio and it is commonly used in filmmaking because it offers an expansive and immersive visual.

The aspect ratio of an image is the ratio of its width to its height. It is expressed as two numbers separated by a colon, in the format width:height. Common aspect ratios are 1.85:1 and 2.40:1 in cinematography, 4:3 and 16:9 in television, and 3:2 in still photography

Oct 9, 2022 · You can do a movie in 2.35:1 or wider and only release it on a streaming service. I guess that's alright, if the movie requires it and / or you expect that it may be viewed in cinemas in the future, so there's an actual use for the wider ratio.
