Zoo Hours Of Operation. 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Daily | April to October. 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Daily | November to March. Exhibits begin closing daily at 4:30pm. Sunset Zoo is closed on Thanksgiving, day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas day, New Year's Day, and Employee Training Days. Animal Care staff are present daily.

Visitors to Sunset Zoo can stroll through its shaded pathways, encountering animals from around the globe. The exhibits are thoughtfully designed to mimic natural habitats, and guests can participate in interactive experiences like animal encounters, keeper talks, and guided tours.

The Zoo is wheelchair and ADA accessible, however inclines near the gibbon exhibit along the Asian Trail can be steep. If you need help back up the hill, call Guest Services at 785-587-2737 for aid back to your car.

Sunset Zoo’s daily hours align with standard work schedules to ensure the best care for our animals and staff. While we close at 5:00pm, we offer a variety of special events and programs throughout the year that provide opportunities to enjoy the Zoo after hours.
