On Ebay there is an A8 3870K 3.0 GHZ quad core for $99. From a bang for the buck perspective the A8 and A10 black edition models are considered top of the line. Me?

Apr 3, 2015 · Well, depends upon your needs Sir. I just bought and build a FM1 PC for a family member with very limited needs. I took a A4-3400 with a A75M-DS2 board, 4GB of AMD Entertainment RAM and a 350W Antec PSU. I bought those parts for very, very few money and the PC satisfy my family member's needs. So it all really depends upon your needs.

Jul 10, 2010 · AMD has not changed the clamp-on heatsink retention mechanism for their CPUs since the original Athlon 64 debuted in 2003, so any clamp-on heatsink from that time period or newer (including your 2005 unit's heatsink) will work on an AM3+ or FM1 board, provided the heatsink isn't too large and hits DIMM slots, capacitors, etc.

Aug 9, 2011 · FM1 is for Fusion processors (AMD is calling them APU or Accelerated Processing Unit) it is a "cpu" with the gpu on the die, as well as some PCI and DDR3 control. This is the A series processors (A8-3850 Llano is the top right now)

Feb 3, 2013 · Well I'm no computer technician but I've examined both FM1 and FM2 CPU's, and I don't see why we couldn't just fabricate an interface that fit into an FM1 socket, with an FM2 array planted on top. It would just be an "in-between" piece like a VGA:HDMI or a Mini HDMI:HMDI.

Jan 24, 2014 · your current chip is quad cord already, I don't think it's worth spending that money unless your current chip hit the shitter. I have a HTPC I built in 2012 with a A6 chip on FM1 mobo, I think my next upgrade will be a complete rebuild. What are you using this PC for? Might give us a better idea if it's worth the upgrade.

The upcoming release of AMD's 4th generation APU known as Kaveri (January 14, 2014??) will only work in socket FM2+ motherboards. The highest performance AMD processor will still be the FX series ...
