The SU-122 (from Samokhodnaya Ustanovka 122 mm) was a Soviet self-propelled howitzer or assault gun used during World War II. The number "122" in the designation represents the caliber of the main armament, a 122 mm M-30S howitzer .

Here is a more detailed report from which it becomes obvious why the SU-122P didn't beat out the SU-100. The gun parts and mechanisms perform well in winter, and therefore easier, conditions. Final evaluation may only be performed on very poor terrain, and in the summer. In winter conditions, the air-tightness of the return mechanism is adequate.

Aug 3, 2009 · The SU-122 is probably the best value vehicle for supporting a Strelkovy battalion, it has good high explosive (FP2+), excellent range (32”/80cm) and good anti-tank (AT10). It also has good armour (F5 S5 T1), though it would pay not to expose it to too much fire.

The SU-122-44 was a Soviet self-propelled gun (SPG) designed in early 1944 with a 122 mm (4.8 in) D-25S gun, with its fighting compartment situated at the front of the hull. The "44" in its name referred to the T-44 tank which the design was based on.
