STS-91 was the 24th flight of Discovery, and the final Space Shuttle mission to the Mir space station. It was flown by Space Shuttle Discovery, and launched from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, on 2 June 1998. [1]

Jun 2, 1998 · STS-91 closed out the Shuttle-Mir Program, when it brought back to Earth U.S. Mir astronaut Andy Thomas, after he had spent 130 days on Mir. The transfer wrapped up a total of 907 days spent by seven U.S. astronauts aboard the Russian space station. Mar 27, 2020 · STS -91 marked the 9th and final Mir docking mission. The first phase of the cooperative effort in space exploration between the United States and Russia was completed in June 1998 with the launch of Space Shuttle Discovery on the ninth and final docking mission with the Russian space station Mir.

When Commander Charlie Precourt and Pilot Dom Gorie landed Discovery at precisely 2 p.m. EDT on June 12, 1998, they ended the operational phase of the Shuttle-Mir Program and delivered Andy Thomas back to Earth after his 41⁄2 months onboard Mir.
