Dec 10, 2024 · The 81-83 XR200R was a good bike for trail riding; it has a short wheelbase and plenty of suspension travel for trails. I first rode one in 81 and was impressed with its handling. One thing that helps is a 12 tooth counter shaft sprocket. The OEM fluid in the shock was an issue on bikes of that era so we always replaced the OEM fluid.

It is 6V rated, but will run a 12V bulb just fine when using a regulator. The headlight is bright but dims on idle unless you run it DC and use a battery, this is what I did.
