Conyers, a city of roughly 17,000, has been evacuated and surrounding Rockdale County, with a population of nearly 100,000, is under shelter-in-place guidance continuing into the early morning hours of Monday after a fire at a BioLab facility and resulting chemical plume.

A shelter-in-place advisory is extended in Rockdale County, Georgia, after a fire and chemical release erupted at a BioLab plant east of Atlanta. Thousands of residents in the city of Conyers were evacuated and the presence of chlorine has been confirmed by the EPA.

For everyone sheltering in place, the best practice is to turn the air conditioning off and keep windows and doors shut,” a statement said.
