Brevard honored Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday with a parade and other commemorations. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, also known as MLK Day, honors the American civil rights leader's birthday, although it rarely falls on that actual day. King was born Jan. 15, 1929, but the federal holiday is observed on the third Monday in January.

The MLK Dream Big Parade is one of the oldest-running events in the country in honor of Dr. King. People bundled up on one of the chilliest days so far this winter for the annual MLK Dream Big Parade on Monday to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an icon in the fight for civil rights.

Full of energy and excitement, this year's downtown Las Vegas parade has a theme: "Living the Dream — Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future."
