The televised event Thursday evening was the first debate in the critical race between U.S. Sen. Bob Casey and GOP hopeful Dave McCormick.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania and Republican challenger David McCormick met Thursday for their first debate in the pivotal race for a swing-state seat, with each candidate repeatedly accusing the other of lying and turning questions about energy,

McCormick, who said he supports Trump’s mass deportation plan, argued that Americans are “less secure” under Casey’s watch over the southern border, but Casey fired back that McCormick opposed the bipartisan border deal that would have addressed the issue earlier this year.
