Democrat Josh Stein won the North Carolina governor's race on Tuesday, Edison Research projected, defeating Republican Mark Robinson, whose candidacy imploded following a CNN report that he had called himself a "Black Nazi" and made other offensive remarks on a pornographic website.

Rainwater has run for governor in the past. In 2020, he came in third with just 11.4% of the vote. His campaign promises to make Indiana's state government smaller, including a four-year budget freeze. He hopes to eliminate the state's individual income tax and personal property tax on residents' primary residence.

Republican Kelly Ayotte won the New Hampshire governor's race on Tuesday, Edison Research projected, defeating Democrat Joyce Craig in one of the nation's only closely fought gubernatorial contests.

The election was one of 11 gubernatorial contests. Voters also considered dozens of hot-button ballot measures and thousands of state legislative races.

After a contentious gubernatorial race has come to a close, Josh Stein will take over for Gov. Roy Cooper in the executive mansion.
