If we had to judge by the included diagrams, the trigger and bumper on each controller would act as the mouse click. Multiple included images show a hand with the thumb on the joystick. Multiple parts of the patent mention the use of the thumbstick, and we suspect it could act as the scroll wheel or serve some other scrolling function.

Given all of the apparent changes to the Joy-Con Controllers with the Nintendo Switch 2, such as the rumored ability to use them like a PC mouse, a true follow-up to 1-2 Switch could be a very smart way for Nintendo to introduce these new additions to the more casual side of its audience on day one.

During the Nintendo Switch 2 teaser in January, the gaming company also said we would get more information in the next Nintendo Direct, which was vaguely placed in April. Now we have a a time and date for the event: Wednesday, April 2, 2025, starting 9 AM Eastern, 6 AM Pacific and 2 PM UK time. Nice and early.

The Nintendo Switch 2 was announced with a sneak peek trailer in January, although we're still a few weeks away from a full reveal with a release date, launch line-up and price. Nintendo will showcase the console during an upcoming Direct conference on April 2.
