The legal battle over whether Columbus City Schools should provide transportation for charter and nonpublic school students continued Monday, with the district filing its legal response to a state motion filed last week.

The motion, filed Monday by CCS, argues that the suits filed by Yost lack legal merit and asks them the Court to dismiss it.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost recently filed an emergency motion in the Ohio Supreme Court against Columbus City Schools over busing issues that have plagued the district. This is part of an ongoing lawsuit Yost filed earlier this month against the state’s largest school district over issues related to busing charter and private school students

Ohio AG Yost filed an emergency motion with the Supreme Court concerning CCS's lack of busing for certain students.

Yost's motion in his lawsuit against CCS claims that state law requires a district to provide busing after a student challenges a transportation decision.

The emergency motion, filed Wednesday in the Ohio Supreme Court, urges City Schools to begin busing charter and parochial students.

"Routing additional students will most likely create hardships for students already being transported, including the more than 9,000 charter and nonpublic school students we already transport," the district said in a statement.
