It didn’t take long for White Sox right-hander Davis Martin to realize Saturday’s mound effort at Comerica Park was one of those starts to be thrown away among the 32 or 33 he hopes to make this season.

Sean Burke, Jonathan Cannon and Davis Martin combined for 17 innings and zero earned runs in the White Sox first series of the 2025 season.

The Chicago White Sox lost to the Detroit Tigers 7-2 on Saturday at Comerica Park. The Sox have been outscored 28-10 during their four-game skid.

Detroit came into this game having won 3 of their last 4 including a bruising of the White Sox during yesterday’s home opener. They scored seven on Friday, withstanding a late rally to win it. No rally today though as the Tigers again pummeled Sox pitching to win 7-2.

The Tigers counter with Reese Olson, who had a very weak first start, giving up four earned runs in 4 2⁄3 innings. But that was against the mighty Dodgers, who may be a trifle better at hitting than the Sox. The righty has been difficult for the Sox in his young career, just 2-2 but with a 2.16 ERA and a measly .143 batting average against.

Those looking for more definitive, final answers on the Opening Day roster for the 2025 White Sox will have to wait one more day. OK, maybe two or three. And definitely no more than four, with the reg
