It’s still April, but President Donald Trump is already letting Americans know that the October day widely acknowledged to be Columbus Day will in fact be Columbus Day, thank you very much.

President Donald Trump made clear Sunday that he would not follow his predecessor’s practice of recognizing Indigenous Peoples Day alongside Columbus Day in October, accusing Democrats of denigrating the explorer’s legacy as he pressed his campaign to restore what he argues are traditional American icons.

Canadians are currently heading to the polls to vote in the federal election which will see either incumbent prime minister Mark Carney or Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre win. Unsurprisingly, US president Donald Trump has used the opportunity to promote his desire to see Canada become America’s ‘51st state’.

In a social media post on the day of Canada's election, President Donald Trump suggested that Canadians should vote for him in order for Canada to become the 51st state.
