Detroit City Council officially approved the hiring of Todd Bettision as the chief of the Detroit Police Department.

Bettison served as deputy mayor before taking on the role as interim police chief after the former chief left the department.

The Detroit City Council officially voted to approve Todd Bettison as the city's new police chief during Tuesday's meeting.

Todd Bettison, who has served three months as interim Detroit Police Chief, has been given a permanent appointment for the role. Mayor Mike Duggan made his recommendation for Bettison public on Feb.
