At least 15 people died and another 15 were injured in a stampede at the main railway station in India's capital New Delhi on Saturday night, the chief minister of the capital territory told reporters early on Sunday.

The Delhi high Court noted that this public interest petition raised concerns about the ineffective implementation of provisions in the Railways Act, primarily Sections 57 and 147.

Crowds had swelled because trains carrying Hindu pilgrims to the Kumbh Mela, the world’s largest religious festival, had been delayed, according to local media.
