A group riding postie bikes the length of the country will hit Whanganui next week with a prostate cancer awareness message.

Emergency services were called to Bluff Beach on the state's Far North Coast shortly before 6pm on Friday amid reports a 68-year-old man had failed to return to shore after entering the surf.
