Italian skier Federica Brignone posted the fastest time in the opening run of the women's giant slalom at the Alpine world championships on Thursday. Brignone built a big lead of 0.67 seconds over Alice Robinson of New Zealand.

Federica Brignone has won the women's giant slalom at the Alpine skiing world championships in Austria. The Italian skier beat Alice Robinson of New Zealand by 0.90 seconds for her second medal from these worlds after earning silver in super-G a week ago.
