A San Diego family escaped a house fire in Bay Terraces early Tuesday morning, thanks to a working smoke alarm and quick actions by Christian Hernandez-May.

Firefighters with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department responded to a fire in the second floor of an apartment building in the 7000 block of Belden Street in San Diego just before 8 p.m. Saturday.

Some individuals living in the encampment accepted new housing options, while others were removed from the area.
