The Justice Department terminated hundreds of grants this week, effectively slashing the budgets for organizations across the country that assist crime victims and fight both gun violence and opioid abuse.

Advocates warn the loss of federal funding will jeopardize programs that help crime survivors heal and prevent cycles of violence in California communities.

Some of the hundreds of grants were mysteriously reinstated, but it’s unclear how many or why they were cut in the first place.
