The Met Office has warned up to 20cm of snow may accumulate in the worst affected areas ahead of icy conditions and wintry showers. Amber cold health alerts have also been issued, with the potential for "significant impacts" including "a rise in deaths".

The Met Office has warned that snow, sleet and rain could bring disruption to parts of the UK during Monday evening overnight into Tuesday morning.

Outbreaks of rain spreading west during the afternoon will turn to sleet and wet snow at times. Snowfall is expected to affect higher ground, especially over 200m, with several centimetres possible. The highest peaks of the Sperrins and Mournes could get between 5-10cm of snow,
