The Lent season – which is a 40-day period of prayer and fasting leading up to Easter – starts on Ash Wednesday and ends on the Thursday before Easter Sunday. This year, Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent will be on Wednesday, March 5. Lent will end on Holy Thursday, April 17. Good Friday will be the next day, on Friday, April 18.

It's almost time to break out your King Cake and Mardi Gras beads — Fat Tuesday is just around the corner. Though many don't traditionally associate Carnival Season with Easter, the monthslong celebration that includes Mardi Gras actually leads up to Ash Wednesday.

Good Friday, the Friday before Easter, falls on April 18, 2025. The holiday remembers the day that Jesus Christ suffered and died, rising three days later on Easter Sunday.
