There is quite a large area of bottomland forest and marshlands year round. The site also boasts grasslands, dry forests and upland areas — just about every habitat southern Indiana has to offer.

Much of the preserve is a wet bottomland forest with a tree canopy composed mostly of sycamore and silver maple. Scattered throughout are examples of cottonwood, yellow-poplar, red maple and boxelder.
