Apple’s next iPhone SE might be announced “as early as next week” ahead of it being on sale later in February, Bloomberg reports. The new phone has already seemingly appeared in photos and video and Bloomberg says Apple’s inventory of the current iPhone SE has started running low, which all could point to an imminent launch.

The iPhone SE has always been something of an outlier in the Apple line up. Sticking rigidly to an older design, the budget phone carries an air of nostalgia, particularly for a time when phones didn't require at least three hands to hold.

The widely reported mandate on Apple to trash its encryption at the behest of the UK government is a disaster for iPhone users and everyone else as well. It’s the most serious setback for personal cyber security we have seen in years.

As reported on Thursday, Apple is gearing up to launch the next generation iPhone SE in the coming days. While some expect the company to hold a big event to announce new products, there’s a chance that Apple won’t hold an event to launch the iPhone SE 4 and potentially new iPads and Macs.
