(WSET) — Many customers in Virginia are without power after a storm on Sunday. As of around 4 p.m., Appalachian Power is reporting over 9,000 customers without power.

Appalachian Power is not a fan of a bill characterized as ensuring power system reliability is a key factor when regulators determine if utility costs are fair and reasonable for ratepayers.

Appalachian Power spokesperson Debby Pannell said that crews are prepping for potential power outages. "All our field workers are packed and ready should they need to go,” she said.

Appalachian Power said its efforts to restore power have been slowed with one winter storm following so soon after another. Winter Storm Harlow dropped up to 8 inches on Central Virginia last week.
