The United Auto Workers union asked the workers at Stellantis to authorize a strike, accusing the French-Italian car maker of breaking its contract promises, UAW President Shawn Fain said in a letter to the union's U.

The United Auto Workers (UAW) leaders are urging Stellantis members to be prepared to vote in favor of a strike against the automaker.

The UAW says Stellantis isn't living up to its commitments on product and investments, which the company denies.

UAW Stellantis Council met yesterday to discuss the beleaguered carmaker's "ongoing failure" to honor their 2023 agreement.

United Auto Workers union says it may go on strike against Stellantis as its disputes with the automaker intensify.

"To be clear, Stellantis has abided, and will continue to abide, by the agreement the parties reached in 2023," Stellantis' North America COO Carlos Zarlenga said in an email to the UAW.

The UAW and Stellantis have been at odds this year after the union accused the automaker of delaying the reopening of the Belvidere Assembly Plant in Illinois. The plant sat idle in 2023, but under the 2023 contract agreement, the automaker pledged to reopen the facility.

UAW President Shawn Fain is expected to speak at 10 a.m. on Facebook Live to give an update on the union's negotiations with Detroit automakers.
