Impacts from Helene — which hit Florida as a Category 4 hurricane but has since been downgraded to a tropical storm — have arrived in North Carolina. Many are without power and evacuations are underway in the western part of the state.

Hurricane Helene has already produced flash flooding and dangerous winds across the region, and it has come on the heels of heavy rains, downed trees, sporadic tornadoes and some minor flooding due to a separate system that entered the region from the west.
