Chelsea women's team manager Sonia Bompastor has condemned the homophobic abuse that striker Sam Kerr and U.S. midfielder Kristie Mewis faced after they announced they are expecting a baby.

England women's football manager Sarina Wiegman and Chelsea have condemned online abuse of female players Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis after the couple announced on Monday they are expecting a baby.

While Kerr will not carry the child, she is still entitled to family leave, in accordance with FIFA’s regulations. Non-biological mothers in same-sex relationships are guaranteed eight weeks of paid absence, which must be taken within six months of the child’s birth.
