Mysterious 'doomsday fish' washes up on California beach
A rare oarfish, long associated with myths of impending disaster, has washed up on a California beach for the second time this year. The nearly 10-foot-long creature was discovered last week on a beach in Encinitas, southern California, by Alison Laferriere, a PhD candidate at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego.

Mysterious deep-sea ‘doomsday fish’ found washed up on California beach
A rare deep sea fish, regarded as a harbinger of doom, has washed up on a southern California shore. The Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego, said one of its PhD students discovered an oarfish on a beach in Encinitas last week that was around nine to ten feet long.
