Incumbent Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) and Republican Sam Brown will go head to head Tuesday in the Nevada Senate race. Rosen, a first-term senator, has held a steady lead throughout the cycle, buoyed by a fundraising and spending advantage that has helped keep Brown at arm’s length ever since his primary victory in June.

The most diverse battleground state, Nevada has more registered nonpartisan voters than Democrats or Republicans, and Democrats have been winning presidential elections here by smaller and smaller margins. The relatively small number of electoral votes make it less likely to be decisive.

According to an NPR analysis, 15 of the state’s 17 counties voted Republican in the last two election cycles. But the two that went blue — Washoe and and Clark — are where 90 percent of Nevada’s population lives.
