Multiple districts in Bihar have been put on high alert after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted heavy rain and warned of potential flash floods in parts of the state, officials reported on Saturday.

The IMD has forecasted heavy rainfall in parts of Bihar, warning of low to moderate flash flood risk in 13 districts. Authorities have been urged to stay on alert, and preventative measures are being taken.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Dhule Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Akola, Amravati and Buldhana districts and an orange alert for the adjoining Raigad and Palghar districts due to the forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

A total of 5.7 cusecs of water was released from Birpur Barrage on Kosi River till noon, the highest in the recent past.

Heavy rain is likely in West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Patna, Jehanabad, Madhubani and Bhojpur districts, IMD's bulletin said.

With isolated heavy rain projected for these regions, officials are urging residents to remain cautious and prepared. The agency has also highlighted a moderate flash flood risk for several areas in the south Gujarat region and the coastal areas of Konkan and Goa.
