India has achieved a major milestone in defense technology by successfully test-firing its first long-range hypersonic missile.

India conducted its first successful test of a long-range hypersonic missile, bringing the country a step closer toward deploying a high-tech weapon that’s in the arsenal of only a handful of countries.

Nuclear-armed India has tested its first hypersonic missile, the defence minister said Sunday, publicising the super-fast high-tech weapon days after rival China showcased its latest military aviation powers.

India has successfully tested a long-range hypersonic missile, marking a significant leap in its defence capabilities, announced Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The missile, capable of carrying multiple payloads,

India successfully conducted flight tests of its first long-range hypersonic missile. The tests took place yesterday evening, November 16, according to the Indian Ministry of Defence website. The tests were conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

In the naval role, the missile is likely to be based on the island territories and will be tasked to target large enemy ships like aircraft carriers, making it a critical sea denial weapon to secure the Indian Ocean.

India has joined the elite league of nations after it successfully flight-tested a long-range hypersonic missile off the coast of Odisha.  Russia and China are the two other countries having this capability.
