Bhagalpur: Durga Puja begins almost a week early for a section of Bengalis in Bhagalpur, with 18-day rituals instead of the traditional 10 days.

Sources at District Puja Udjapan Parishad office said the Durga Puja festival will begin on October 9 with the performing of Moha Sashthi Puja and conclude on October 13 through immersion of idols of Goddess Durga and other deities in different water bodies after Bijaya Dashomi celebration.

Though the festivities begin from Mahalaya, the celebrations start from the sixth day – Shashthi. On this day, the idol of Goddess Durga is unveiled, and her presence is invoked.
