Supporters of ultra-nationalist Calin Georgescu, the candidate who won the first round of Romania's annulled presidential election, demonstrate Thursday outside the headquarters of Romania's High Court of Cassation and Justice in Bucharest.

In Bucharest, about 6.5 thousand supporters of AUR (Alliance for the Unification of Romanians party) came out today, January 12, to protest against the cancellation of the presidential elections in 2024.

TENS of thousands took to the streets of Romania’s capital, Bucharest, on Sunday against a top court’s decision last month to annul the presidential election. The protest comes a month after the Constitutional Court made the unprecedented move to annul the election just two days before a December 8 run-off.

The cancellation came after state documents showed frontrunner Calin Georgescu benefited from an unfair social-media campaign likely to have been orchestrated by Russia.

A massive demonstration took place in Bucharest, during which thousands of people demanded a second round of presidential elections. The constitutional court annulled the results of the first round, which triggered the largest protest so far.
