If you have about 2 hours to spare, this is a good place to learn about the artic and history of the place. What really impressed me is that unlike other museums where they charge you for bag lockers…Full review by Erico2709

Second tiem I went and I learn new things about the arctic every time I go. This is a must not miss if you are in the Lapland. The WWII history, the natural history, it is all so interesting.Full review by David T

Rovaniemi is very safe. Not sure why you'd want to be up that late looking at the northern lights since it's pretty much dark 24/7 this time of year. So long as the weather is good you should see them, but I'd go further out of town to get away from ambient light. You might be lucky enough to meet some reindeer on the beach at Arktikum btw!
i'm planning to go to Rovaniemi in january 2018... would northern lights be visible during that time?

Yes, but allow a good couple of nights in case you have cloud cover. You will not actually see them in Rovaniemi unless you are very lucky, but if you drive approximately 10 km north you will. I got very good photos at a camp site on E75 (highway) at a Lake called Olkkajarvi about 15 minutes from town.
Hi! Since a year has passed, I am re-asking the same question - if there are lockers (for big luggage) at Arktikum Museum? As Arktikum is my last stop before I catch my train in the evening.

Why don't you call the museum and ask, they all speak excellent English in Finland. And if they don't have lockers it would be very safe anyway. The Fins are very honest and who'd want to steal your luggage and cart it somewhere anyway?
We are planning to visit on 6 December, and we understand that it also happens to Independence Day in Finland. So we are wondering if the museum will be open. Thank you

According to their website it will be open daily excluding only Christmas Eve.
