It is part of the Ogden–Clearfield, Utah Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settlement at Harrisville was made in 1850. A post office called Harrisville was established in 1871, and remained in operation until 1902. The community was named after Martin H. Harris, a pioneer settler.
