One of the best places to start see in Porterville. Great dog friendly trail too! Be sure to bring cash for parking as the parking cost is $12 a car Full review by David H

Burnt to a crisp up there. Very depressing. Before you go up stop at the Springville ranger station to get information on road and weather conditions. Expect road work delays. Full review by davidaP2820ES
Please advise where a mature couple would find economical to stay a couple nights in the vicinity with easy access to trail of 100 giants.

The Trail of 100 Giants is near Johnsondale, a very small place about 20 minutes away. Here is a list of places I found on Google. We were staying much further north near Springville camping at Camp Wishon, so I cannot speak to any of the listings. It is really isolated in the National Forest, but then that is why they have survived so long. Just put into google places to stay around Johnsondale, Ca. Hope this helps. I found at least five or six that might do.

Hi, I saw in google maps that the great western divide highway (M-90) that takes you to this trail is closed November-May. Is that correct? We'd like to go next week, and I was hoping that maybe it would be possible. Is there anyone here that visited that place recently (spring 2018) and has some up-to-date information? Thank you!

Hello Shiny-aga, We visited that highway March 30, 2018 and it was just opened that Friday after a rockslide somewhere between Springville and The Trail of 100 Giants. Snow was melting quickly and there wasn't much in the area, thus I expect that the roads will remain open. You can check by calling a small business in Ponderosa, the closest SMALL town on the highway, or call the Springville Ranger Station, they had up to date information. Hope this helps! Have a wonderful trip!
