Hi Betsy, it is a beautiful part of Yorkshire sadly no longer connected by rail to the national network. However you can still enjoy the experience by getting a train from Harrogate to Northallerton changing trains at York. From Northallerton you can get a Dalesbus No73 to the Wensleydale Railway station at Leeming Bar, they run every 30mins. During October The Wensleydale Railway trains run on their autumn timetable. The following example is for Saturday October 20th 2018, leave Harrogate at 9:07am on the York train, arriving at York 9:16am, change to the Trans Pennine Express departing at 10:18 for Northallerton, arrivlng at Northallerton 10:40, get the Dalesbus service 73 (Bedale) from County Hall at 11:09 (the bus stop is about half a mile from the station), the journey takes 19mins arriving at Leeming Bar at 11:18am, asy your driver for the fairview Flats stop, from there it is a 2 minute walk to Leeming Bar station, leaving plenty of time to catch the train departing at 12:15pm from Leeming Bar station, arriving back at 2:54pm The return journey is simply the reverse ot the outward, just bear in mind that the last 73 bus is 18:10 to County Hall Northallerton. This is a fairly relaxed schedule with ample transfer times, however you need to plan your day ahead as there could be issues with industrial action on Northern Rail services fom Harrogate throughout October, the fare is approx GBP25-30 return, Google National Rail and use their excellent journey planner to find out disruptions. Wensleydale Railway runs trains every weekend in October, and Tuesdays 2nd & 9th October, Saturday 3rd November is the last regular service for 2018. Santa specials run every weekend in December 2018 (and Monday 24th Dec), and hoilday specials on the 26, 29 December, and the 1st January 2019. Google "Wensleydale Railway UK" for theri website.Google "Dalesbus UK" for bus info. So a journey not without its challenges but comfortably achievable, of course depending on your budget etc, you could stop over at York for a day, or stay at Leyburn overnight and spend longer in the Wensleydale area. Hope this info has been helpful. The example times are taken from various websites: The Wensleydale Railway, National Rail, Dalebus, and Google Maps. All the best Betsy, cheers Drew22
