There are several hotels in downtown Salem. The Hotel Salem and The Merchant are the newest. They look nice, but I have never stayed there. The venerable Hawthorne Hotel is off of Salem Common. Each of the hotels is within an easy walk from the Peabody Essex Museum.

Two alternatives: 1AN or 128/95N, follow 128, get off Peabody, Lowell St exit, follow signs to downtown Salem. I recommend Museum Place parking. Super close to PEM.
