When we visited this beach, we had it nearly all to ourselves. It is wonderful that we could stay as long as we wanted without having to worry about closing time. We left shortly after sunset because… Full review by Ambassador756111

I highly recommend going to the Padre National Seashore - Malaquite Beach. Yes, you have to pay, but that keeps the crowds to a minimum. The beach is clean and they have a visit center, as it is part of the NPS. Plus, you do not see vehicles down on the beach like you would at a public beach.
Where is the closest place to stay? We would love to come for a hatchling release in 2020. Also, how are you notified when there is going to be a hatchling release?

There are a few hotels & motels on the island, the closest one (La Quinta Inn) about 10 miles from the National Refuge & Malaquite Beach.

Yes and no :) There is a section blocked off from cars- which is great with kids. Also nice if you don’t want to get your car sandy. There is showers at that section ( close to visitors center). No dogs or fires permitted. There is also a section that you can drive on. You can either just drive a few hundred yards (this would be the section if you want a campfire), or drive down further where four wheel drive is needed ( little shell then big shell).
Can we arrive after midnight to the Malaquite camping grounds
