I highly recommend going to the Padre National Seashore - Malaquite Beach. Yes, you have to pay, but that keeps the crowds to a minimum. The beach is clean and they have a visit center, as it is part of the NPS. Plus, you do not see vehicles down on the beach like you would at a public beach.

A:
There are a few hotels & motels on the island, the closest one (La Quinta Inn) about 10 miles from the National Refuge & Malaquite Beach.

Yes and no :) There is a section blocked off from cars- which is great with kids. Also nice if you don’t want to get your car sandy. There is showers at that section ( close to visitors center). …

Yes and no :) There is a section blocked off from cars- which is great with kids. Also nice if you don’t want to get your car sandy. There is showers at that section ( close to visitors center). No dogs or fires permitted. There is also a section that you can drive on. You can either just drive a few hundred yards (this would be the section if you want a campfire), or drive down further where four wheel drive is needed ( little shell then big shell).

i’m sorry, but i dont have an answer to your question about camping since we were just there for the day. we have been to this beach several times and just absolutely love it! this last time was the end of july and the water temp was 82 degrees and it was only 86 degrees. awesome!
